Friday Night Sew-In Results

Last night I got all of these fabrics cut to make...

... this quilt. A lot of pieces (240 2 1/2 inch white squares). By the time I was done, it was midnight and I hadn't turned my sewing machine on. That didn't seem right for a Friday Night Sew-In, so I sewed for about a half an hour and...

... completed the first 3 rows. So far I am liking it.

I love the paisley fabrics (this is a Luna Notte jelly roll).

How I left the remaining rows last night before I went to bed. I moved things closer together so they weren't under the dining room table anymore. I don't want to move the fabrics so I guess I will be working on finishing the top this weekend. Think I need a design wall so I don't have to leave my fabrics on the floor (I cleaned the floor earlier in the day, knowing I was going to do this).

I also cut the fabrics for this quilt.

Still need to attach the fabrics and I didn't include the birds, as I'm not sure if I am going to add them.   I might put something else there instead. (pattern can be found here).

I also got a little work done on the sock too. Finished the gusset and am now working on the foot. A few more inches and then it will be done.

Go see what everyone else did last night.

A Few Beginnings

I've had a few finishes lately, so I guess it is time to start some. The fabrics above will become...

... this quilt. A gift for my grandmother. She's not my biological grandmother, but she's been married to my grandfather for almost 40 years. She's a really amazing woman who has had a really rough few months. I won't get into details but I think she deserves this and more.

Some of these masculine fabrics will become...

... this quilt. This is the quilt for tomorrow's National Quilting Day, pattern can be found here.  Not sure if I will get any of it done this weekend. This quilt will also be a gift - either my father or father-in-law.

Some of these fabrics will become...

... this. Monica from Happy Zombie designed it and I just couldn't resist. It will probably end up being a gift for my mom, although she may not want the birds on it. Pattern can be found here.

I'm also happy to say all these fabrics (except the jelly roll for the first quilt which I bought specifically for that quilt) all came from my stash. Even though my no-buying fabric is over (I went 10 weeks), it's nice to shop my stash first. The jelly roll came from Green Fairy Quilts (and it was a great price).

So, will one of these projects be my project for tonight's Friday Night Sew-In? I haven't really decided what I am going to work on yet. I have ironed some of the fabrics for the projects above so it is possible I may start one of them, or I might finish up some others. Who knows.

Maybe I'll work on finishing this sock. Since this picture I have finished the heel and am working on the gusset. It should be done this weekend.
Stop by tomorrow to see what I actually worked on tonight.

A Few Finishes

2 scarves I made for my sister's birthday, last month. Her present arrived this week (took almost 3 weeks!), so I can finally show them here. I was suppose to make her a pair of socks with this yarn, but for some reason the yarn caused me nothing but trouble, so I crocheted these scarves instead. Pattern was found on ravelry, here. For one, I used a whole skein, the other I made shorter and added some fringe.

Close-up. Quick scarf. I made these two in an evening and a day. Will definitely use this pattern again.

I also made her this knitted basket.

The scarves are in the grey bag and I filled up the rest of the basket with fabric. Happy Birthday Sarah!

This week, I crocheted a quick sweater for my niece. This will be for her 3rd birthday, this July. Still deciding whether I am going to buy a dress or knit one, since I still have 3 skeins of the yarn left. You can find the pattern for the cardigan, here.

I finished quilting and got the binding on this quilt last night. Just needs a wash and then it will be ready for the etsy shop.

I stitched-in-the-ditch along the rows and then added free-motioned flowers over the whole quilt.

Next up... a post about some projects I want to begin. Maybe one of them will be my Friday Night Sew-In project, this Friday. Have you signed up yet? No? Then you should go here and join in the fun tomorrow night. There's already over 160 signed up.

What I've Been Up to This Week

First, I finished a sock. Just a simple, straight forward sock.

I love the orange toe.

The yarn is really soft. Love the gusset.

Second one is cast on and the cuff is almost done. What do you think sis? Do you like them?

I've also been working on this cardigan for my husband. He picked the yarn and the pattern. I only have another inch or so before I start decreasing for the armholes.

All those jelly roll strips I showed you earlier this week, have  been sewn together in 3 different sets. But don't they look really well together? I thought so too, so I...

... cut them into strips...

...then sewed the strips together...

... then sewed the long strips together into...

... a jelly roll bargello. I've added the rest of the strips since then. It is 29 x 80 inches. I think I need another jelly roll to complete it. However, I did take pictures along the way and once I add the second jelly roll, I'll put a tutorial together for how to make a jelly roll bargello. So, I guess I need to break my no buying fabric until Mother's Day to finish this project. Oh well. I made it 10 weeks without buying any and I'm really proud of that.

Spring is in the Air!

Couldn't resist these at the grocery store on Sunday. I bought 3 bunches so there is enough for 2 vases. Feels like Spring inside, even with the cool, wet weather outside.

The next FridayNight Sew-In is Friday, the 18th. Go sign up, HERE.

Some Finishes and a Few Starts

Vintage Wall hanging - finished. I finished this last Wednesday but didn't get it posted. Hope to get it in the shop by the end of the week.

Boy quilt -finished. I finished this last Monday after I was done the Bow-tie garden (see previous post). It's now been washed and is ready for the shop.

Some yarn finishes. 3 washcloths (gifts to be revealed later) and a scarf - another gift for a work friend of my husband's.

This scarf is crocheted and worked up very quickly.I wanted to link to the pattern, but I can't seem to find the link ( I only have the pdf file).  It is called the Ashleigh Scarf and I have tried Ravelry and Google with no luck. If I find it, I'll post a link to the pattern.

Slightly open pattern, so it could be worn on cool days in Spring and Autumn. I might have to make this scarf again.

And now some starts. I'm sure most of you have seen the tutorial going around for an easy way to make Half-Square Triangle blocks. You can find it here,  and here . I bought this charm back of Me andMy Sisters Favorites from Green FairyQuilts on Cyber Monday and was wondering what to do with it. I decided to try making some hst and do a pinwheel quilt.

However, if you move the blocks around a little bit - you get a different block. So, some became pinwheels and the rest became the other block. It is such a happy looking quilt.

The other block. Does anyone know the name of this block? For now, the quilt is called - To Pinwheel or Not to Pinwheel (since that is the question I asked myself 21 times).

Bonus block for the back. Perfect for labeling. I used 4 strips from the matching jelly roll for the border.

Here are some of the remaining jelly roll strips. I have an idea for these.

And for these ones too.

Oh, and I might be doing something with these ones. If I'm lucky, I might have a finish and tutorial for you by the end of the week.

February UFO is DONE!

Thanks to Judy and her UFO challenge, I am able to check another UFO off my list.

Here it is #10, Bow-tie Flower Garden, all finished (and currently getting washed). Original design. I once thought of trying to publish this pattern, but now I'm not so sure. It did help with my blue fabric scrap stash.

White picket fence. I used my free-motion foot for ALL of the quilting of this quilt. The green grass is the only part of the quilt (besides the border) that isn't quilted. I really like how the fence turned out.

Close-up of the flowers and sky quilting. I stitched-in-the-ditch around the bow-tie flowers.

Leaves and stems. I zig zagged around them and added a vein to the leaves.

The back.

This quilt was originally going to be gift, but the occasion has since passed and now I'm not sure what to do with it. Maybe it will be a gift or it might end up in the etsy shop. I'll see if I can part with it after it comes out of the dryer and is all cuddly and warm.

Onto March and the UFO is #1. House blocks. Lucky for me all 9 blocks have now been posted. I'm really not in the mood for this quilt though. I was able to but the binding on 2 more quilts last night and I really want to keep the finishes coming. I'll get to the house blocks eventually - like March 29th.
Go here, to see everyone else's February UFO finishes.
