Challenge Update

 Before I get to my challenge update, here's a picture of my son, all wrapped up in the quilt I made him, watching a video (I was at the sewing machine and turned to find him like this). He's just so cuddly it was hard not to go over and hug him. I'm glad he appreciates the quilt.

 First challenge to myself was to piece the top of a holiday lap quilt for myself. Here are all the fabrics ironed and cut.

My second challenge was to piece a baby boy blanket using some of the charm squares I cut at the beginning of the month. I have met this challenge by piecing TWO boy quilt tops. They have been set aside for now and will hopefully be quilted and in the shop by the end of the month.

A little bonus, was the wallhanging I cut. An easy, original design using some flannel fat quarters I picked up a few years ago. It's already pieced and is roughly 20 inches square. I may be adding a second border, so I haven't taken a picture of the quilt top yet.

Another Challenge?

It's that time... again. Are you going to join?

It was a lot of fun last time, committing to a project and giving myself 1 week to finish it.

Here is my challenge for this week. I liked this quilt as soon as I saw it in the previous Fons & Porter magazine as coming in the next issue. Well, the issue arrived last week within 10 hours, I had all the fabrics for this quilt picked from my stash. However, I had a few other things I knew I should finish (see previous post about my Friday Night Sew-In results) and laid it aside. With those projects now complete (finished putting binding on this morning) I am ready to tackle this quilt. I challenge myself to get the top completed by the end of the week, ready to be quilted next week.

And to keep my mind thinking about my etsy shop, I am also challenging myself to complete a baby boy quilt top from the charm squares I cut earlier this month.

We'll see what happens.

Friday Night Sew-In Results

Here's my quilt table, ready for a night of sewing. Have the hockey game on the computer (Go Leafs Go!) and my glass of wine.

 Here's what I am trying to complete. This pile of table runners and 1 baby blanket. So, how did I do?

 4 table runners quilted for my etsy store.

 1 baby blanket quilted for my etsy store.

2 table runners quilted that will be gifts this Christmas.

The rest of this weekend will be attaching the above binding, taking pictures and posting the items for my etsy store.

A couple Friday finishes

I am getting ready for Friday Night Sew-In tonight, but thought I would share 2 finishes from this week first.

 I finished this table runner.

And this baby blanket, made with all vintage fabrics.
Both are for my etsy store and will hopefully make it there this weekend.

Now, to get ready for tonight!

A Few October Finishes

 Second pair done!

 The foot.

 The leg. I am wearing these socks right now and they are super warm and cozy. They weren't made from sock yarn but from really soft yarn. They knit up really quick. I might have to make some more. I think they would feel really great in winter boots or skates. I have already cast on a third pair. My husband says I have found my calling.

Remember this piece of fabric?

 I finished the table runner, using only that one piece of fabric. I added the black for sashing and borders.

 I used black thread around the applique to give it a more stain glass look. I added a hanging sleeve since it was originally designed to be a wall hanging. (the pin you can see in the corner was keeping the sleeve out of the way while I attached the binding). The pattern is from a Fons & Porters magazine and it's a gift so no full pictures. But I love it and want to keep it for myself.

 Pansies! It must be for my sister.

I also finished the lap quilt for my son.

I zig zagged around the circle appliques, then stitched in the ditch around all the blocks. He has already used it several times. I've used it too, after he's gone to bed. It's just the right size and warmth.

No batting, just some fleece remnants on the back.

I've been thinking about it for awhile and I decided to join this round. I'll warn the family and work on getting things ready for Friday night. I'm really looking forward to it. Have you joined yet?

little birds

 A couple Thursdays ago, after storytime at the local library with my son, I happened upon this book on the New Books shelf. I had seen a little of this book on someone's blog months ago and had forgotten about it. I grabbed it and checked it out and brought it home with me. It is one of the most adorable books. I wish I was talented enough to do all the projects in this book but I don't really have the patience for some of them. However, I took some pictures of some of my favourite projects (I only photocopied the few I thought I would definitely do).

 Don't you just love these guys? I could never make them but I still love them.

 Why didn't I think of this one? Copied it.

 My daughter loves this guy. It's the little guy from the front cover and his nest. The nest is knit from fabric strips. Think I will have to try this.

 Love this one too!

 I am going to make this guy very soon. Might make one for my niece, Athena too.

He's too cute.
